The invention disclosures of Siemens tripled within ten years between 1990 and 2000, involving a rapidly growing amount of IP data to be managed.

The IP docketing teams in Europe and the US based their work on different software solutions. Thus, exchanging data and coordinating the IP management led to difficulties.
